the reason...

The reason for the previous post? I just finished the other quilt I have been working on for a while. I took some pictures in low light so you can see the detailing on the border along the outside. Don't remember if i named this one yet or not.

My stash of fat quarters and leftover materials and some brand new, never been used in a quilt colors too!

Yeah, starting her a little early but hey...

Leftovers!

So...i was left with these pieces from my quilt. I was sure I was going to use them...just wasn't sure how. Duh - look at the quilt book. They had a pattern in there to utilize the left over pieces. So now I have a wallhanging sized quilt.

No idea what to do with it, but I will probably quilt the wide tan fabrics with a 'heavy' pattern and let them colored strips stand out. Other than that? I don't have any place in my house for it.

Out with the Old, In with the New

This is an odd combo quilt - older Victorian style prints in a contemporary pattern. Something different. The quilt pattern was used in a baby quilt, but I wasn't going for their verson. I 'updated' to a little more stylish combination of colors.

Almost has the feel/look of a contemporary painting of sorts. But I like it. I am adding 6" borders of the red fabric all the way around and then it will be ready to layer.

MLK Day off = Put another quilt together

Strong hubby lugged the kitchen table to the family room again. :o)

All the pieces are cut out and the individual blocks are put together. Now to create the rows by joining the blocks together. This was a simple quilt and cut all the pieces and sewed the blocks together in just a couple hours.

Together!

Here it is all put together. I added 3 borders to the outside of the diamond pattern - 1 white 2" border, 1 striped 3" border and 1 daisy 5" border. I loved how it turned out. I have the quilting patterns stenciled on the borders. The diamonds will just be 1/4" traditionally quilted. One exception - I am not using the traditional white/neutral colored threat to quilt. I am alternating bright pink and bright orange to give it some 'pizzazz' :o)

Quilting Post 2

Next after iron all the squares open, put them front sides together and sew.

Some squares may have become 'unsquare' during the previous sewing. Square them up if needed.

Sew until all your squares are together - same pattern on both squares so they look like above.
Arrange the squares how you like.

I decided on the random style. Start with a row and connect each block to the next like I did on the first row. Make each row and then sew each row together.

Going a little wild!

So I am probably setting up our little Irish girl to be a hippy wild child, but I loved this fabric! I just couldn't bring myself to do the traditional pink, purple and yellow baby rattle, bottle and teddy bear type quilt.

Someone else told me that I was going to freeze her brain with all the bright colors!

Quilt Therapy

I had this all cut out and ready to be put together for our little one. The green really isn't as dark as it shows in this picture. It is more of an light olive green. What appears almost creamy is actually yellow. Anyway, I decided (after encouragment from my mom) that I should go ahead and put it together. So that is what I did this afternoon.

Next project...

Jay announced the other day that he would like our room to be in tan and black. Today I shopped for those colors and one additional one. All these materials when looked at at an angle, have some gold or sparkle to them. Should be an interesting quilt.

Finished: Sunlight on the Lily Pond

Yay! I absolutely love how this quilt turned out. So bright and cheery. I spent a lot of time with quilting patterns on the borders and even on each individual block. As you can see below, depending on what material the block was made of determined the pattern for it.

Blue squares have square quilting in them.

Light green blocks have the basket weave type quilting.

Paisley material - I just followed some of the squirly lines and quilted those.

This is the very center of the quilt. It's about 18"x18" and I quilted a puffy cloud type of pattern.

Pics of the borders.

Sunlight on the Lily Pond

It is completely quilted. I turned it over so you could see the border detail. When I get the binding on it and washed I will post a final photo.

Thanks to Murdock!

Thanks to my mom, I now have a quilting frame. She gave me hers from her quilting days.

I don't know if you can see the designs I stenciled on, but I am now ready to quilt.

Next....

It's once again time for a larger quilt. This one will be a full to queen size or bigger. I haven't decided on how many borders to put on it. Right now I have 3 cut out. Again, the pattern called for blues, pinks and florals...yuck!!!! I decided on greens and light blues and I added the white diamond in the center with the colors inside it. The pattern was just random blocks. I like mine better (duh.)
I'm calling it Sunlight on the Lily Pond.

Here it is with the first border on it.
